What is a good alternative to Panda Video Compressor?

Published · Updated · By

It depends on what you want to drop. Panda Video Compress & Convert does more (target sizes, trim, ten formats) but shows ads. OctoZip, ours, suits you if you want no ads, a side-by-side Compare before saving and help finding your biggest videos. For a computer, our free online compressor works in the browser and never uploads.

We make OctoZip and the online video compressor, so read this with that in mind. We're not connected with Farluner Apps & Games, Panda's developer. Every fact about Panda comes from its Google Play listing (US store) and Farluner's own sites, checked on 1 November 2026 and linked where it's used. We didn't run Panda ourselves for this page.

Panda and OctoZip side by side

Both compress on the phone. The differences are ads, how you aim at a size, and the extras. Checked on 1 November 2026.

"Not stated" means Panda's listing doesn't say, not that it can't. Panda's prices are the in-app product range Google Play showed in the US store on 1 November 2026; OctoZip's are from the same store on 28 October 2026, and prices in your country differ. OctoZip's facts come from its code and listing.

What does Panda do better?

More features and a much longer track record. If those matter more to you than ads, Panda is the stronger app:

When is an alternative the better choice?

When ads bother you, when you want to see the result before you keep it, or when you're on a computer.

  • No ads. Panda's listing carries the "Contains ads" label, and its Premium benefits include "No ads" and "No promo text → removed from shared videos". The listing doesn't say what the promo text is. OctoZip has no ads and adds nothing to your videos; free users do see a full-screen offer for OctoZip Pro after every second saved video.
  • Check before you keep it. OctoZip's Compare screen shows the original and the copy side by side, with pinch-to-zoom on both, before you save or replace. Panda's listing doesn't describe a comparison view.
  • Find what's filling the phone. OctoZip's Clean up storage lists the videos taking the most space, so you compress those first. Panda's listing mentions replacing large files with compressed versions.
  • On a computer. See the next sections.

Is there a Panda video compressor for PC or online?

Not under the Panda name. Farluner's page for Panda presents it as a phone app and names no Windows, Mac or web version. Farluner does run a separate web tool, Simple Video Editor, which Panda's listed developer site points video users to. It works differently from Panda:

Simple Video Editor reads AVI, MPEG and OGV files, which our online compressor can't. Ours needs recent Chrome or Edge and does the work on your own device, so a long video takes a while on a slow one.

How do I shrink a video for email with each?

In Panda, its listing describes an "Email-ready" option that resizes a video for Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo and AOL, or a size you set in MB. The listing doesn't give the size the email option aims for.

In our online compressor, the email setting aims under 18 MB, leaving room for the extra third email adds to an attachment, so it fits a 25 MB limit (why 18 MB):

Compress for email in your browser

  1. Open the compressor with the button above, in recent Chrome or Edge on your phone or computer.
  2. Tap Choose a video. Target size is already set to 18 MB; the page shows its estimate.
  3. Tap Compress video, play the copy, then Download or Share it.

Worked example: a 2-minute 1080p phone video at 17 Mbps with 192 kbps sound is about 258 MB (17.192 × 120 ÷ 8). The compressor's own plan for the email setting is 854 × 480 at about 0.95 Mbps with the sound kept, about 17.3 MB. That's its estimate before compressing; the real size varies with the picture. In Panda you'd pick a size in MB and see its result in the app.

In the OctoZip app, there's no size box: Small file (easy share) uses about a third of the resolution, so that 1080p clip comes out at about 640 × 360. Read the size on the result screen and use Compare before you send it.

How do I compress a video with OctoZip?

  1. Install OctoZip from Google Play. To start with the biggest files, tap Clean up storage; otherwise tap Pick a video.
  2. Choose Small file (easy share), Medium file or Best Quality (keeps the resolution).
  3. Tap Start Compression. It runs on the phone and works without an internet connection.
  4. Tap Compare to check the copy, then Save compressed video or Replace the original.

OctoZip is free with no ads. OctoZip Pro, a weekly, monthly or annual subscription, adds batch compression, four more presets, 8K sources (saved in 4K) and files over 3 GB. It runs on Android 7.0 or later. Full steps: how to compress a video on Android.

Questions people ask

Is there a Panda video compressor with no ads?

Panda itself removes ads with Premium, which its listing sells as an in-app purchase ($0.49–$59.99 per item in the US store, as listed on 1 November 2026). OctoZip has no ads in the free version. Our list of Android video compressors with no ads or watermark has more.

Does Panda upload my videos?

Not according to its listing, which says Panda "performs all compression, resizing, conversion and editing operations directly on your phone". Farluner's web tool, Simple Video Editor, is different: it uploads videos and deletes them after 24 hours. OctoZip and our online compressor never upload your video.

Can OctoZip compress a video to a set size like Panda?

The app can't; it uses three presets and shows the saved size. Our online compressor can: choose Target size and type the size. See compressing a video to a specific size.

What this page doesn't cover

  • We didn't install or time Panda, so we make no speed or picture-quality claims about it. Its facts are what its listing and Farluner's sites say.
  • Listings change. Panda's was last updated on 11 August 2026; check it before you rely on a price or feature.
  • OctoZip has no target size, trim or format conversion beyond MP4, MOV and MKV, and batch is part of Pro. Our online compressor does one video at a time, up to about 1–2 GB.
